Abdominal Sculpting

What Is Abdominal Sculpting?

A flat, toned stomach can usually be achieved through a nutritious diet and exercise; however, washboard abs are extremely hard — in some cases, nearly impossible — for most people to achieve. If you want a defined stomach with a visible six-pack, then board-certified gynecologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Otto Huertas offers ab sculpting at his office in Dallas, TX. Using this highly refined liposculpture technique, Dr. Huertas can skillfully remove small amounts of stubborn fat to reshape your abdominal appearance.  What Are The Benefits Of Abdominal Sculpting?

An abdominal sculpting procedure designed by Dr. Huertas at Dallas Cosmetic Center can help you get the tighter-looking, more defined abs you want with benefits like:

  • Achieving noticeable results when diet and exercise have failed
  • Removing even the most stubborn fat pockets
  • Flattening, tightening, and toning the stomach
  • Accentuating the abdominal muscles (6-pack)
  • Treatments are customized to your needs and goals
  • Scarring is minimal and virtually invisible
  • Recovery time is relatively short

Who Is A Candidate For Abdominal Sculpting?

During your consultation, Dr. Huertas will examine your body to determine whether you’re a good candidate for abdominal sculpting. To be a candidate, you should be at a healthy, stable weight but have stubborn, isolated pockets of fat on your abdominal wall. Good candidates tend to have a low body fat percentage (preferably under 20%) and have attempted to flatten their stomach by eating a high-protein diet and exercising regularly with strength training. Due to genetics, hormones, or pregnancy, you may be unable to develop washboard abs on your own.

What To Expect During Abdominal Sculpting

Dr. Huertas performs abdominal etching as an outpatient surgery with patients under anesthesia. During the 1 – 2-hour surgery, Dr. Huertas will create one or more small incisions to insert a hollow tube (cannula) to remove fatty tissue. Dr. Huertas generally uses liposculpture methods to loosen and take out fat, but may also use power-assisted liposuction (PAL) to achieve a more chiseled look. Dr. Huertas will etch the midline, linea alba fibers, and the outline of the rectus muscle. To reveal a six-pack, he may also reestablish the horizontal lines and transverse inscriptions. After removing the fat, Dr. Huertas will close the incisions.

What Is Recovery Like After Abdominal Sculpting?

Following the surgery, you’ll need to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and bruising, which will likely be present for about two weeks. You’ll probably feel moderate to minimal discomfort but may be able to return to work within around 5 – 7 days and resume exercise within three weeks. Dr. Huertas does his best to place the tiniest incisions in your skin’s natural creases, making the scars difficult to see once fully healed. Dr. Huertas or a member of his team will go over scar care for your incisions.

Abdominal Sculpting FAQ

Does abdominal sculpting hurt?

No, it does not. Because abdominal sculpting is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you are asleep, you will feel no pain during the procedure. After an ab sculpting procedure is complete, some patients may experience mild soreness, bruising, redness, or swelling, but this is a normal part of the recovery process and typically goes away in about 14 days.

Is abdominal sculpting permanent?

While the results of an abdominal sculpting procedure at Dallas Cosmetic Center can be dramatic and long-lasting, they can also be affected by weight gain. The best way to preserve your results is to maintain your weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.

How long does an abdominal sculpting procedure take?

A typical ab sculpting procedure will take about 1 – 2 hours to complete.

How long is recovery after ab sculpting?

You will be wearing a compression garment to aid healing for about two weeks. Most patients will be able to return to work within a week and resume their exercise routine in about three weeks.

Does abdominal sculpting leave scars?

Because abdominal etching is a form of liposuction, Dr. Huertas will have to make small incisions. However, these incisions are very small, and Dr. Huertas places them in locations that follow the body’s natural curves and lines to make them virtually invisible after they heal.
