What are Ultrasounds & Sonograms?
At CosmeticGyn Center in Dallas, TX we provide ultrasounds and sonogram imaging in our office. Our board-certified gynecologist and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Otto Huertas, can order these tests to view the reproductive system when medically necessary. You may need to have an ultrasound with the handpiece on top of your abdomen or trans-vaginally with a probe. An ultrasound is a diagnostic tool Dr. Huertas uses to check for uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, reasons for infertility, and more. Ultrasounds and sonograms are well known for their use throughout every stage of pregnancy as well. An ultrasound can help Dr. Huertas determine what your body needs to be healthy and eliminate certain medical conditions related to your symptoms.

Why are we using an ultrasound?
When we really need to get a deeper look into your feminine health, an ultrasound can home in on medical conditions without needing invasive surgery. You may be a candidate for a diagnostic ultrasound when you need to make a medical decision on how to treat the following symptoms, among others, appropriately:
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Unexplained infertility
- Recurrent miscarriages
- A high-risk pregnancy
- A potentially tilted or misshapen uterus
- Heavy periods
- Recent weight fluctuations
- Excessive bloating
Your Ultrasound Appointment
Your ultrasound will take place in a private treatment room. You'll change into a paper gown and lie down on an exam table. For a handheld external ultrasound above your pelvic area, we'll apply an ultrasound transducer jelly to your abdomen and begin the ultrasound. The transducer provides images using high-frequency sound waves. In the event that you need to have a transvaginal ultrasound, Dr. Huertas will insert a vaginal wand or probe that can give him a different view of your reproductive organs.
Understanding your Test Results
Our team at CosmeticGyn Center will take the time need to explain your ultrasound results. Dr. Huertas will make recommendations for treatment or order additional testing if the ultrasound was insufficient. In the event that you do have an abnormality or a medical issue that needs to be addressed, he'll speak with you about your options in a compassionate manner.
