What is urinary incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is the decrease of bladder control, which causes urine to leak. There are several urinary incontinence types, such as urgency incontinence, stress incontinence, functional incontinence, and overflow incontinence. Dr. Huertas will determine the underlying reason and develop the best treatment plan for you. Urinary incontinence symptoms may include:

  • Releasing small amounts of urine during routine activities, like working out, leaning down, coughing, or sneezing
  • Feeling the sudden need to use the bathroom right away
  • Wetting the bed at night
  • Being unable to reach the bathroom in time
  • Leaking urine without forewarning

These symptoms occur for several reasons. The kidneys help your body get rid of waste and water, then turn it into urine. Next, it moves the urine into the bladder with small tubes called the ureters. When you need to urinate, the bladder contains muscles that contract, which pushes the fluid out of it with a small tube known as the urethra. During this process, the sphincter muscles near the urethra relax, so you can expel the liquid. Incontinence happens as the bladder muscles tighten unexpectedly and your sphincter muscles do not have the strength to squeeze the urethra closed. Unfortunately, this creates an unanticipated urge to use the bathroom and impacts your ability to control urination.

How is laser vaginal rejuvenation a good urinary incontinence treatment?

Dr. Huertas uses the Designer Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (DLVR) device to treat urinary incontinence. This revolutionary technology can help with other feminine health issues, like improved vaginal appearance, lubrication, tightness, and comfort. Depending on if we address your urinary incontinence or combine it with other treatments for your vulvar structures, the procedure can take about 30 minutes to two hours to complete. With more complex techniques, we may use general, regional, or local anesthesia to help keep you comfortable. However, with just laser rejuvenation treatment, you usually do not require any anesthesia. At your consultation in Dallas, TX, Dr. Huertas discusses what you’d like to correct, creates a personalized treatment plan based on your goals, describes the details of your treatment, and provides information about the cost of laser vaginal rejuvenation.
